With over 1,400 optometrists in the state of Ohio, Dr. William Lay of New Albany was named the 2012 Ohio Optometrist of the Year. He practices in partnership with eight other optometrists at Professional VisionCare, with offices in Westerville and Johnstown.
The award was presented to Dr. Lay in recognition of his work to help improve the vision of all residents of Ohio from infants to senior citizens. He serves as the Ohio Coordinator for InfantSEE®, a public health program where optometrists provide complimentary eye examinations for infants within the first year of life regardless of a family's income or access to insurance coverage. He is a past recipient of The Young Optometrist of the Year Award at both the state and national levels. He is also a Past President of the Ohio Optometric Association.
Dr. Lay is integral in furthering the technology of vision care by serving as a principal investigator for contact lens research studies. His passion for athletics has led him to provide sports vision services and education to athletes, coaches, and trainers. He also has a special interest in eye disease management for conditions such as glaucoma.
Dr. Lay has traveled to Sierra Leone, West Africa to provide eye care to people of third world countries as part of the Fellowship of Christian Optometrists. He is a 1992 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Optometry.
