This Holiday Season Opt For Toys that are Eye Safe

The holidays are almost here and we all know what that means, Erector Sets for some, and Barbie dolls for others. Well meaning family members love surprising the little ones with the ''in'' toys to start off the New Year.
It is important that family members explain to relatives the restrictions when it comes to toys and eye safety. Mishaps involving toys and games can take place, occasionally causing blindness.

Below are a few guidelines to guard children from toy related eye injuries:

  1. Only buy gifts which are age and developmentally appropriate. Don't allow young siblings to handle toys made for older siblings.

  2. Explain to children how to play safely. Prior to play, carefully look at new toys for sturdy, safe construction.

  3. Don't let small children play unsupervised.

  4. Prevent eye injuries by throwing out toys that have pointed tips or catapult launchers.

Before purchasing the new game that your child ''must have'', take a few minutes to peruse toy safety guidelines. Anyone who has ever watched ''A Christmas Story'' should have learned that already. Happy Holidays to all.
